Mrs. Harm Boekholt 1879-1944
Kanawha, July 31:- After a lingering illness Mrs. Harm Boekholt passed away at the home in Kanawha last Thursday afternoon. Having been in poor health for some time she was taken to Mercy Hospital at Mason City for an examination in the early part of May. There her condition was pronounced incurable. Returning to her home she was made as comfortable as possible by the loving care of her daughter Allie.
Mrs. Harm Boekholt, nee Tena Abbas, was born on October 31, 1879, in the vicinity of Abbot Crossing, Grundy County, Iowa. While still a child she accompanied her parents who moved to a farm southwest of Kanawha. She was united in marriage to Mrs. Harm Boekholt on January 16, 1905. The first years of their married life were spent on farms in the vicinity of Kanawha. About 28 years ago they moved to Kanawha, where she resided until death at the age of 64 years, 8 months and 26 days.
Mrs. Boekholt possessed a retiring disposition and found happiness in her home which for the past few years she shared with her daughter, Allie, and two grandchildren, Maynard and Corinne. She was a loving and devoted mother and grandmother. On March 17, 1901, she made confession of her faith in the Lord Jesus Christ in the local Christian Reformed Church. Her desire to again see her son, Harm, who at present is in the service of his county in England, remained unfulfilled. She leaves to mourn her departure, her three children: Cora, (Mrs. John Helmers) of Titonka; Pvt. Harm Boekholt, and Allie (Mrs. John Riggle); eight grandchildren; one sister, Mrs. Cora Seebeck; other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her husband, who passed away on December 10, 1936; one infant daughter, and two sisters.
Funeral services were held Saturday afternoon, July 29, at 12:30 o'clock at the home and at one o'clock at the Kanawha Christian Reformed Church, with the Rev. D. H. Plesscher officiating. Interment was made in the Kanawha Cemetery.
