February 10, 2000DR. SYRUS E. TANDE, 82, of Clearwater, died Tuesday (Feb. 8, 2000) at Mariner Health Care of Clearwater. He was born in Kanawha, Iowa, and came here in 1986 from Park Ridge, Ill. He retired from the Navy as a captain in the dental corps and was a veteran of World War II, the Korean War and the Vietnam War. He graduated from St. Olaf College, Northfield, Minn., and earned his doctorate in dentistry from the University of Minnesota. After 30 years in the Navy, he joined the staff of the American Dental Association ADA where he served on the council of Hospital Dental Service and the Council of Dental Education. In 1976, he became a member of the Northwestern Dental Service where he retired in 1984 and was named Professor Emeritus. He was a member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church, Clearwater, Omicron Kappa Upsilon honor society and the ADA American College of Dentists. Survivors include his wife of 57 years, Christy; a sister, Arlene Stolen, Denver; a brother, the Rev. Everett, Missoula, Mont.; a daughter, Deborah Tande Stofer, Edina, Minn.; two grandsons; and three stepgrandsons. Moss-Feaster Funeral Homes & Cremation Services, Belcher Road Chapel, Clearwater.
