EAGLE GROVE — Bernice Katherine Loux, the daughter of Martin and Dorthea (Sund) Jensen, was born October 2, 1925, in Humboldt, Iowa. She was raised and educated in the area of her birth and graduated from Humboldt High School in 1943. She received her teaching certificate from Iowa State Teachers College at Cedar Falls. Bernice taught school in rural Humboldt County, southwest Iowa, Meservey and Woolstock.

On June 29, 1952, Bernice was united in marriage with Raymond C. Loux at the Danish Lutheran Church in Humboldt. The couple lived on a farm east of Eagle Grove until moving into town in November of 1987. Bernice was a member of St. Peter’s Lutheran Church in Woolstock – serving as chairman of the Ladies Aide and also taught Sunday school. She helped to organize the Woolstock Senior Citizens Center and worked for Elderbridge on Aging, serving as an advocate for seniors. Bernice served as chairman for the Rotary Ann Auxiliary. Bernice received 2 Governor Volunteer awards. She also found time to enjoy canning, sewing and raising chickens.

Bernice passed away Thursday, June 5, 2008, at Care Age of Clarion at the age of 82 years. She was preceded in death by her parents; sister, Marion Nelson and brother, Donald Jensen. Survivors include her husband, Raymond Loux of Eagle Grove; nephews and nieces: Jim Nelson and wife Helen of Ankeny, Harriett Nelson of St. Louis, MO, David Nelson of St. Charles, Connie Williams and husband Ronnie of Missouri, Grant Nelson of Des Moines, Diane Smoot, Vicki Brooks, Ronnie Jensen all of New Port News, VA and Robert Jensen of Ohio, sister-in-law, Iva Jensen of New Port News, VA and nephews, Michael Loux and wife Lori of Eagle Grove and Kevin Loux and wife Belinda of Center Point and many great nieces, nephews and other relatives.

Funeral services will be held Monday, June 9, 2008, 10:30 a.m. at St. Peter’s Lutheran Church in Woolstock with Rev. Bill VanNostrand officiating. Visitation will be Sunday from 5 to 7 p.m. at Foust Funeral Home, Eagle Grove. Burial will be in the Rose Hill Cemetery at Eagle Grove.
