Charles H. ELBERG

Charles H. Elberg, the son of Carl H. and Lula M. (Strait) Elberg, was born on November 23, 1929, in Dayton Township, Eagle Grove, Iowa. He was raised and educated in the area of his birth, graduating from Eagle Grove High School in 1947. He also attended Eagle Grove Junior College.

On October 29, 1950, Charles was united in marriage with Norene J. Graves, at the Little Brown Church in Nashua, Iowa. The couple made their home in Eagle Grove.

Chuck worked as superintendent of building and maintenance for Umthun Trucking Company, retiring in 1992. He also worked for Sadler Construction. Chuck was a member of the United Church of Christ – serving as a moderator, trustee and deacon. He also served on the Eagle Grove Fire Department and the Eagle Grove City Council. Chuck was a Planning & Zoning officer for Wright County and the City of Eagle Grove. He was a Boy Scout Leader and President of the Little League Association. Chuck enjoyed his family, fishing and woodworking.

Chuck passed away on Saturday, May 3, 2008, at the Wright Medical Center in Clarion, at the age of 78 years. He was preceded in death by his parents. Survivors include his wife, Norene (Mike) J. Elberg of Eagle Grove; daughter, Frannie Hansen and husband Randy of Eagle Grove; son, Chuck Elberg Jr. and wife Maria of Eagle Grove; 3 grandchildren: Nathan Hansen and wife Melia, Jordan Hansen and Kristyn Elberg; 2 great-grandsons, Logan and Tyler Hansen; sister, Marjorie Parsons of Edina, MN; brother Harold Elberg and wife Jo of Eagle Grove and many nieces and nephews.

Memorial services will be held on Tuesday, May 6, 2008 at 2:00 pm, at the United Church of Christ in Eagle Grove with Pastor James Cunningham officiating. Visitation will be Monday from 5:00 to 7:00 pm at the Foust Funeral Home, Eagle Grove. Private family burial will be in Glenwood Cemetery, Goldfield. Memorials may be left to the discretion of the family.
