July 20, 2004SINSINAWA, Wis. -- Sister James Mary Barry, OP, 97, of the Dominican Motherhouse, Sinsinawa, died at 12:02 p.m. Sunday, July 18, 2004, at the Dominican Motherhouse. Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday at Queen of the Rosary Chapel, Dominican Motherhouse. Burial will be in the Motherhouse Cemetery. Friends may call after 5:15 p.m. Thursday at the Gathering Place, Dominican Motherhouse, where there will be a wake and remembering service at 6:30 p.m. The Miller Funeral Home, East Dubuque, Ill., is in charge of arrangements.
Sister James Mary was a principal and elementary teacher for 25 years. From 1975 to 1987 she served as a high school secretary and finance officer. She then lived community life with her sisters. She served in Iowa, Illinois, California, Wisconsin and Minnesota.
She was born on March 7, 1907, in Belmond, Iowa, daughter of James Francis and Hannah (Jordan) Barry. She made her first profession of religious vows on Dec. 26, 1943. Surviving are many nieces and nephews; and her Dominican Sisters, with whom she shared life for 61 years.
