Telegraph Herald, Dubuque, IALawrence A. "Larry" Hart, 65, 2130 Sunnyview Drive, died Sunday, March 31, 1996, at Mercy Health Center St. Joseph's Unit, Dubuque. Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at St. Anthony's Catholic Church, Dubuque, with burial at 12:15 p.m. Thursday at Calvary Cemetery, Eagle Grove, Iowa. Friends may call from 3 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Hoffmann-Schneider Funeral Home, 1640 Main St., Dubuque, where there will be a wake service at 7:30 p.m. Friends also may call from 11 a.m. to noon Thursday at Sacred Heart Parish Center, Eagle Grove.
He was born on Sept. 22, 1930, in Eagle Grove, son of John F. and Mary Theresa "Tess" (Hood) Hart. He graduated from Loras College in 1953, with a bachelor of arts degree in mathematics. After teaching in Dowling High School, Des Moines, from 1953-55, Lawrence returned to teach at Loras College, retiring in 1993. For many years he was a departmental chairman in the mathematics department. He was enrolled in the doctoral program (mathematics) at the University of Iowa from 1965-68. He received seven National Science Foundation grants and National Science Foundation Science Faculty fellowships at the University of Iowa from 1964-67. He was a member of the Iowa National Guard 34th Military Police Unit with its major maneuvers at Camp McCoy, Wis., from 1948-66. Larry was a life time member of the American Mathematical Society and its Iowa chapter. In 1955, Loras College bestowed upon him the rank of Professor Emeritus. He was a member of St. Anthony's Parish and its St. Vincent de Paul Society hospital visitation team. He also was a member of the Serra Club of Dubuque, where he was the newly elected vice president. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus and past chairman of Holy Ghost Parish council. He was a past member of the Iowa Academy of Science and a member of the Social Concern Committee at St. Anthony's Parish.
Surviving are three brothers, Thomas J. (Muriel) Hart, of Eagle Grove, Iowa, Emmett (Lori) Hart, of Mason City, Iowa, and Patrick (Paula) Hart, of Waukee, Iowa; a sister, Sister Theresa Hart O.P., of Sinsinawa, Wis.; and 17 nieces and nephews. Memorials may be given to Loras College and St. Anthony's Parish.
