Roy L. Axtell, the son of John and Bertha (Raska) Axtell, was born February 7, 1921, in Iowa Falls, Iowa. He was raised and educated in the area of his birth. Roy served in the United States Army, serving in the 41st Division, 162nd Infantry in the Japan occupation. He was honorably discharged on August 29, 1946. He farmed and worked for Pre-Stress Concrete in Iowa Falls. Roy was a member of the United Methodist Church in Eagle Grove, and the Teamsters of Mason City, Iowa and enjoyed gardening.
Roy was united in marriage to Helen (Sibrel) Heslop on April 17, 1986, in Clayton, NM. Roy passed away Tuesday, April 29, 2008, at Trinity Regional Medical Center in Fort Dodge at the age of 87 years. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Joyce in February of 1985; brother, Darrel; sister, Hattie; and a step daughter, Sharon K. Toresdahl. Survivors include his wife, Helen of Eagle Grove; son, Denny Axtell (Linda) of Cross Hill, South Carolina; daughter, Alice Guisenger (Joe) of Waukee, Iowa; daughter, Marge (Ron) Crawford of Lawrence, Kansas; grandchildren: Tony, Chad, Bertha, DJ, Roxanne, Glenda, Danielle, Peggy and Paula; step grandchildren: Sharon, Debbie, Denise, Duann, Dennis, Vic, Cody, Selena, Angela, Dawn, Betty Jo, Jean and Lowise; several great grandchildren; other relatives and friends.
Funeral services will be Saturday, May 3, 2008, at 2:00 p.m. at the Eagle Grove United Methodist Church, with Rev. Mary Green officiating. Visitation will be Friday from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. at the Foust Funeral Home in Eagle Grove. Burial will be in the Holmes Lutheran Cemetery near Holmes, Iowa. Memorials may be left to the discretion of the family.
