Cecil W. Shunkwiler funeral set

The funeral for Cecil W. Shunkwiler, 65, who died Sunday in the Veterans Administration Hospital in Des Moines, will be at 3:30 p.m. Wednesday at the Patterson-James Chapel. The Rev. Lavern R. Hanson; pastor of Trinity Lutheran Church, will officiate. Mr. Shunkwiler had lived in the community 50 years and made his home at 1716 Carolina SE. He was a veteran of World War II and had served in the U.S. Navy.

He was born Nov. 5, 1907, in Wright County, son of Floyd and Anna (Borrel) Shunkwiler. He was married to Elsie Balduf, July 17, 1926, in Mason City. Surviving are his wife, five sons, Dean Shunkwiler, Mason City; Glenn Shunkwiler, Ft. Bragg, N.C.; Paul Shunkwiler, Plymouth, and Jerry and Robert, at home; four daughters, Dorothy Young, Marion; Mrs. Dale (Anna May) Northrup, Ely; Mrs. Charles (Wanda Lee) Rule, Ontario, Ore., and Mrs. Bill (Elise Marie) Wilson, Sunnyvale, Calif., and 23 grandchildren.
A brother, Barney Clark, Mason City, and four half-brothers, Joseph Clark, Cedar Falls; Keith and Donald Shunkwiler, Mason City, and Lyle Shunkwiler, in California, and two sisters, Elizabeth Tilton, Albuquerque, N.M., and Mrs. Leo (Fern) Clark, Rochester, Minn.; his mother, Anna Clark, Eagle Grove, and stepmother, Verna Shunkwiler, Mason City, also survive. He was preceded in death by his father, a son and two daughters.

Burial will be in Elmwood Cemetery. A flag-folding ceremony will be conducted by the Veterans Memorial Associations of Mason City. Visitation at the chapel has been scheduled after 7 p.m. Tuesday.
