Garnette Ina Blake, age 74, died July 26th, 2004, at her home, following a brief but very courageous battle with cancer. Garnette was born in Rowan, Iowa on November 2, 1929, to Edgar and Marjorie Mantle, along with her twin sister Arnette.

Garnette moved from Iowa to Washington in 1959 and settled in the Yakima area. She worked for 15 years at Libby McNeil Cannery in Yakima as a canning line supervisor. She also cooked for an managed various restaurants and cafes in Yakima (Lariat, Holiday House, Alice's Cafe) before moving to Seattle where she worked at Pike's market for over 6 years. It was in Seattle that Garnette met and married George 'Bob' Blake. Together they moved to Richland. Garnette's final job was Dietary manager at Richland Life Care Center until she retired in 1985. Following retirement, Garnette and her husband Bob, spent many happy years camping, fishing, gardening and spending time with friends and family until Bob's death in 1999. Garnette and Bob took tremendous pride in their home and yard in Pasco and received yard of the month awards from the City of Pasco. Garnette loved to sew, crochet and upholster. She collected dolls and loved to watch birds. She also loved to talk and made many friends easily. She was extremely talented and could do anything she put her mind to. Garnette especially enjoyed Christmas and each year she set up a magnificent Christmas Village around her Christmas tree with numerous mechanical Santas and dolls.

Garnette is survived by her daughter Sharon Hansell of Nashville, Tennessee; her son Robert Howard of Gresham, Oregon; 2 grandsons Lynn and Lonny Morgan of Tennessee; 2 great-grandchildren, Landyn and Lanyia Morgan of Tennessee; her twin sister Arnette Rice of Kennewick, and her older sister Maurine Siefken of Kennewick. She is also survived by many nieces, nephews, friends and neighbors who loved her very much. Garnette was preceded in death by her husband George 'Bob' Blake, her parents Edgar and Marjorie Mantle, her only brother Jerry Mantle and her younger sister Delores Casey.

There will be a visitation time for family and friends on Wednesday, July 28, 2004 from 3 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Columbia Memorial Chapel and Gardens in Pasco. A memorial Service will be held on Thursday, July 29, 2004, at 10:00 a.m. at Columbia Memorial Chapel and Gardens in Pasco. Following the services there will be a luncheon at Garnette's home in Pasco for family and friends.
