Norma Sorensen, 65, of Clear Lake, Iowa, died Saturday, June 20, 1998 at Methodist Hospital in Rochester, Minn. Funeral services will be held today (Wednesday), June 24, at 10:30 a.m. at Zion Lutheran Church, Clear Lake, with the Rev. Dean Hess officiating. Following the service, the body will be cremated. The family suggests memorials be made to the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation.

Norma was born April 30, 1933 in McCallsburg, Iowa, the daughter of Raynard and Sanna (Harestad) Skartvedt. She married Dale Sorensen of Exira, Iowa on Aug. 15, 1953. The couple had four children. She was a graduate of Ellsworth Consolidated School and Iowa State Teacher’s College. She taught elementary education at several Iowa locations, including Mapleton, Goldfield, Estherville and Corwith-Wesley. Active in her community, church and music, she was a member of several community choruses, church choirs, WELCA and PEO. She also enjoyed membership in Grace Circle at Zion Lutheran Church and Questers. After living in Lake Mills, Iowa for 10 years Dale and Norma retired to Clear Lake in 1994. Norma enjoyed reading, lake activities and having her family and grandchildren around her.

She is survived by her husband, Dale Sorensen, Clear Lake; three sons, Michael Sorensen and his wife, Juliette, Irving, Texas, Mark Sorensen and his wife, Jennifer, Raleigh, N.C., and John Sorensen and his wife, Lynette, of West Des Moines, Iowa; a daughter, Susan Haupts and her husband, Ben, of West Des Moines; seven grandchildren, Britt, Becky, Lucia, Katy, Danen and Jordie Sorensen, and Bradley Haupts. She was preceded in death by her parents; a brother, Raymond Skartvedt; and a sister, Arlene Skartvedt.
