Fort Dodge MessengerHARDY — Thelma G. Townswick, 96, of Hardy, passed away Feb. 24, 2008 at the Humboldt Care Center South. Graveside funeral services will be Saturday March 1, 2008 at 1 p.m. at the Story City Municipal Cemetery. Visitation is from 5-7 p.m. Friday at the Mason-Lindhart Funeral Home in Humboldt.
Ms. Townswick is survived by her sister, Opal Shipman of Dakota City; her brother, Stanley C. Townswick of Decorah, Iowa; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by an infant brother; her parents; a sister, Bonnie Shipman; and a brother, Argyle “Joe” Townswick.
Thelma Genevieve Townswick, the daughter of Samuel C. and Dania (Espe) Townswick, was born on October 16, 1911 on a farm near Clarion, Iowa. When Thelma was six years old her family moved to Hardy, Iowa where she completed 10 grades of Public School and was confirmed in the Hardy Trinity Lutheran Church. Following her graduation from Eagle Grove High School in 1929, she attended and graduated from the American Institute of Business in Des Moines. Thelma worked for many years in the office of Priebe and Sons in Humboldt. Following the closure of the plant, she went to work for Midwest Limestone where she remained until her retirement. She maintained her home in Hardy until becoming a resident of the Humboldt Care Center South two and a half years ago. Thelma enjoyed her membership in a bowling league, enjoyed cooking and loved to dance. Memorials may be directed to the donor’s choice.
