Jesse Gibbons was born near Rockford, Ill., November 10, 1865. When he was three years old he came with hia parents to Renwick and settled on a famr two and one half miles north of town. In 1872 he moved to Nebraska where he lived for 22 years. At the age of 34 he returned to Renwick where he lived until five years ugo when he moved to Eagle Grove where he worked as janitor of the East Side school up to the lime of his final illness. He pasaed away on the morning of May 24, 1928, in Eagle Grove at the age of 62 years, 6 months and 14 days.

Mr. Gibbons never married. He always made his home with his sisters. He was converted fourteen years ago and joined the Methodist church in Renwick, transferring his membership to the M. E. church at Eagle Grove when he moved there. He contributed to the construction of the new church at Eagle Grove and was greatly interested in its completion. When he returned from Rochester, Minn., with his death sentence he went to his pastor very early one Sunday Morning and wished to be shown through the church, since he would not be there to enjoy it. He was one of the first men to kneel at the altar of this church and ask God for strength to endure the coming ordeal of sufferng. That prayer was answered; for just a few hours before he passed away he said to his pastor: "Blessed are the dead who die in the Lord."

He was a member of the Masonic and Odd Fellow lodges. He leaves to mourn his passing: His three sisters; Mrs. Betty Elizabeth Patton of Goldfield, Mrs. Maggie Collins of Renwick, and Mrs. G. Whitesides of Aurora, Neb. Funeral services were held last Sunday afternoon. After a short prayer service at the Foll & Wilson undertaking parlors at Eagle Grove, the body was brought to Renwick, where services were held in the Methodist church. Tho sermon was given by Rev. W. C. Mulherman who was his pastor in Eagle Grove. The Rev. Frank Krawell of the Renwick church gave the scripture reading and prayer, and the choir sang three selections. The Masons and Odd Fellows had charge of the services at the Elmwood cemetery where burial was made.
