Former Resident Dies of Heart Attack

Fred G. Engelmann, a former resident of What Cheer died suddenly Oct. 15, 1964 of a heart attack at the age of 81 years. He was born the eldest child of Rev. George C and Amelia Engelmann March 4, 1883 in Aplington, Iowa. In 1906 he was married to Pearl L. Fletcher, daughter of John and Ada Fletcher of What Cheer. To them were born a son, Russell, now of Dallas, Texas; and a daughter Virginia Noble, now of Banning, Calif. He was employed by the Christian church in What Cheer in 1902 and continued in that service until his retirement in 1947. He was a member of the Christian church in What Cheer and was a member of the Masonic lodge in which he rose to the office of High Priest in the General Grand chapter of Royal Arch Masons. He was Master of the Royal Secret of the 32nd degree of the Scottish Rite. Also he was a Shriner.

After transferring from What Cheer in 1936 Fred and Pearl lived a number of years in Eagle Grove. They were living in Eldora at the time of his retirement. They then moved to Flint Lake, Valparaiso, Indiana where they resided until 1961 when they moved to Lancaster, Texas. Pearl preceded Fred in death Oct 19, 1962, after a marriage of 56 years.

Besides his children, he is survived by four grandchildren: Judith Engelmann Austin of New York City; Kurt and Kristin Engelmann of Dallas, Texas; and Ward Noble of Banning, Calif. He is also survived by two brothers: Dr Victor Engelmann of Chicago and Richard Engelmann of Flint, Michigan.
