Richard “Rick” Nelson, 65, of Union, Iowa died early Thursday morning, January 17th, at his home while in care of his loving family and hospice. Memorial services conducted by the family will be held at 1:00 p.m. Sunday, January 20th, at the South Hardin Rec. Center in Union. There will be no visitation. The Mitchell Family Funeral Home in Marshalltown is caring for Rick and his family.
Born on June 1, 1942, in Cumberland, Wisconsin, he was the son of Norman and Madelene (Dakin) Nelson. He received his education in the Webster City High School and served our country honorably in the United States Army from 1960 to 1967. In 1976, he was united in marriage to Linda Krieger in Colorado. They moved to Goldfield, Iowa, and later divorced. He has been a resident of the Union community since 1997. Rick was an over-the-road truck driver and was a member of the South Hardin Recreation Center. He enjoyed golf, his dog Mack, and was marbles champion, tennis champion and yo-yo champion in Webster City.
Left to cherish his memory are his longtime friend Luanne Bergen of Union, his children Shawn (Michelle) Nelson of Tyler, MN., and Gregg (Kathy) Nelson of Goldfield, Iowa, grandchildren: Alexis, Allison, Faith, Kane and Paige, siblings: Douglas (Sandra) Nelson of Union and Sheri Nelson of Butler, Arkansas and a host of friends. In death he has rejoined his parents.
