Lyle was baptized and confirmed in the Missouri Synod Lutheran Church at Colfax Township. He attended eight years of country school and four years at the Eagle Grove High School, graduating in 1938. After graduation, Lyle was engaged in farming until “Uncle Sam” called him to war. He served in North Africa, Sicily and Italy until his health faded and he returned back to the states.
