Aleta Myrtle Glenn, 86, of Earlham died Friday, May 9, 2003, at West Bridge Care Center in Winterset. Visitation will be held Friday evening, May 16, at Fisher Funeral Home in Adel, with the family present from 6-8 p.m. Services will be held at Fisher Funeral Home at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, May 17.
Aleta Glenn was born Dec. 30, 1916, in Baxter, the daughter of Elmer and Lena Cunningham. She married Lee C. Glenn in 1936. They share-cropped farms in Iowa and Minnesota, eventually settling in Dallas County. She operated a cafe in Minburn and worked as in interior decorator in Perry. She bought and remodeled small houses to resell. By 1962 she and her husband had built a large duplex home in Minburn, developing one of the first private custodial homes in the county by caring for three elderly patients in the adjacent wing of the new home. She and her husband operated motels in Grundy Center, Anita and Clarion for years. They moved to a retirement complex in Earlham, which she eventually managed.
She was preceded in death by her husband; four brothers, Herbert, Harmon, John, and LeRoy; one sister, Hortense; and one son, Robert. She is survived by one sister, Maxine Price of Pasel Robles, Calif.; two sons, Charles of Oahu, Hawaii and Ronald of Sunrise Beach, Mo.; six grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
