Dr. William H. Stanbery (1917-2003)

IOWA FALLS — Dr William Henry Stanbery, 85, of Iowa Falls died Jan. 31, 2003, in Fort Worth, Texas. He was born July 24, 1917, in Clarion, son of Harry M. and Ruth Campbell Stanbery. On May 21, 1946, he married Frances Bateman in Weatherford, Texas. Dr. Stanbery was a 1934 graduate of Clarion Community Schools, and continued on to the University of Illinois, graduating with a degree in optometry. He and his wife operated an optometrist office in Iowa Falls, retiring in 1985. He served in the U.S. Army with the 126th Infantry in New Guinea, South Philippines and Luzon. Survivors at the time of his death: a daughter, Rebecca Stanberry (Donald) Black of Fort Worth, Texas; two grandchildren; and a brother, Ross of Clarion. Preceded in death by: a sister, Harriet Stanbery Graveside memorial services: 3 p.m. today at Union Cemetery Iowa Falls. Military rites will be conducted by Hyman-Peavey American Legion Post 188 of Iowa Falls. Linn's Funeral Home, Iowa Falls, is in charge of local arrangements.
