WEBSTER CITY — Lee B. Richards, 91, of Webster City, died Thursday, October 4, 2007 at Hamilton Hospital. Memorial services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, with Rev. Travis Schmidt officiating. Burial will be in the Alden Cemetery at 9:00 a.m. Tuesday. Visitation will be at the Foster Funeral and Cremation Center from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Monday.

Lee Bolton Richards, son of Glen and Eula Bolton Richards, was born October 5, 1915 at Wadena, Iowa. He received his elementary schooling at Redlands, Calif., and graduated from Arlington, Iowa High School in 1933. He received a bachelors degree in journalism from the University of South Dakota. From 1942 to 1945, he served in the U.S. Army 12th Detachment Army Group - Headquarters. He was in the European Theatre of Action. Following his discharge he returned to Iowa. He received a Masters in Library Science from the University of Iowa. On May 28, 1951, he married Irene Emma Klein at Alden. He worked at several commercial banks as a cashier later teaching English and Journalism at Tama-Toledo Consolidated School. In 1964, they moved to Webster City were he worked at the Junior College as librarian and publishing college documents, a newspaper and school annuals for the Webster City and Eagle Grove Campus. He worked full time until 1986, then continued to teach for many years part-time.

Mrs. Richards died August 17, 2004. He had resided at Crestview Senior Living since October of 2006. Lee is survived by sons and daughters-in-law, Richard and Sylvia Richards of Des Moines; Kevin and Dawn Richards of LeMars; grandchildren, Nicholas, Paige and Michael Richards; Ian, Colin and Evan Richards. In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Jay Richards.

He was a member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church. For over 40 years, he was a member of the Webster City Lions Club and a member of the sons of the American Revolution. Memorials may be directed to St. Paul’s Lutheran Church Music Program or Lions Club International.
