BELMOND - Lillie J. Lockman, 88, of Belmond, passed away Monday (Sept. 17, 2007) at the Belmond Health Care Center in Belmond. Funeral services for Lillie Lockman will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, Sept. 20, at the United Church of Rowan in Rowan with Pastor Nancy Hofmeister officiating. Burial will take place in Graceland Cemetery in Rowan. Visitation for Lillie Lockman will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. today, Sept. 19, at the Dugger Ewing Funeral Home, 111 Luick's Lane S. Belmond, and will continue one hour prior to the service Thursdayat the church.

Lillie Jane Lockman, daughter of William and Fern (Munson) Peddle, was born on May 27, 1919, in Wright County. She was raised in the Rowan area and attended school there. Lillie sang, played the violin in the Rowan High School Orchestra and graduated from high school in 1937. Lillie was united in marriage to Lloyd Lockman on Sept. 18, 1940, in Lankaster, Mo. To this union they were blessed with two children, Judy and Sherry. Lillie helped Lloyd with the field work and with caring for their livestock. She also graded eggs at Aldinger Produce in Alexander for a few years. She enjoyed sewing, crocheting, playing cards, gardening, canning, and had a love for cats and dogs. She also enjoyed traveling to Minnesota and to Cook's Camp in Red Lake, Canada, to go fishing with her husband, and spending the winters at their home in Kissee, Mo., after they retired in 1984.

Lillie is survived by her two daughters, Judy (Jerry) Pals of Meservey and Sherry (Byron) Barkema of Two Harbors, Minn.; six grandchildren, Joleyne, Jody, Tracy, Joann, Lonnie and Lisa; 15 great-grandchildren; one great-great granddaughter; two nephews; and one niece. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Lloyd; her sister, Cleo; and one granddaughter, Tammy Barkema Clifton. Dugger Ewing Funeral Home, 641-444-3248.
