HUMBOLDT — Arlene (Nelson) Sherman, 80, died Thursday, August 30 at the North Care Center in Humboldt, Iowa. Arlene was born on a farm in Humboldt County, Iowa on Jan 3, 1927. She was a long time resident of Goldfield where she loved her job as a cook for the Goldfield Community School for 23 years. Arlene loved to tell a good joke, play cards, bingo and spend time with family and friends.

Arlene is survived by her children Dennis (Tami) Sherman of Superior, WI, Richard (Cindy) Sherman of Ankeny and Karen (Matt) Watkins of Elk River, MN; her sister Marilyn (Harold) Wingerson of Fort Dodge; sister-in-law Marian Nelson; three brothers, Norman Nelson of Dakota City, Kenneth (Phyllis) Nelson of Humboldt and Harley (Ann) Madsen of Carthage, MO; Three grandchildren Jeremy Sherman, Jon Sherman and Nathan Watkins. Arlene was preceded in death by her parents Sam & Mary (Larsen) Nelson; her husband, Burton Sherman; Four brothers Marvin, Russell, Sam Jr. and Merlin; three sisters Elnora Nelson, Verena McDowell Strever and Bernice Kleve.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, September 4, at the United Methodist Church in Goldfield. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the church. Brooks Funeral Care in Clive is handling arrangements.
