Funeral service for Melvin "Bob" Arend was held on Wednesday, Aug. 29, 2007, at 1:30 p.m. at the Garry-Roberts-Murphy-Schaaf Funeral Home with Father Paul Eisele officiating. Burial was in the Storm Lake Lakeview Cemetery in Storm Lake. Melvin "Bob" Arend was born Dec. 12, 1922, in Detroit Lakes, Minn., the son of Peter and Eva (Van Note) Arend. He grew up and attended school in Detroit Lakes before moving to Burt and graduating from Burt High School. After his schooling, Bob entered the United States Army in March of 1946 and served until September of 1947. After his honorable discharge from the Army, he moved to Algona. Bob was united in marriage to Norma Lange at Detroit Lakes, Minn. After their marriage, the couple lived in Algona, and Bob worked as a farm hand. He also later worked at AGP in Eagle Grove. Bob enjoyed fishing and camping. Bob died Sunday, Aug. 26, 2007, at the Algona Good Samaritan Communities. He was 84.

He is survived by his two step-sons, David Lange and wife Pat of Storm Lake and Steve Lange and wife Gail of Denison; sisters-in-law, Ruth Arend of Algona and Annette Arend of Algona, and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Peter and Eva; wife, Norma, who died Feb. 14, 1998; brothers, Duane and Richard Arend; sister, Phyllis Arend, and step-son, John Lange.
