Mary Monaghan Dies at Waverly
Funeral conducted at Eagle Grove where family had resided for 40 years

Waverly, Ia. -- The funeral of Mrs. Mary Ann Monaghan, nee Gill, who died at the home of her son, John D. Monaghan, in this city was at the Catholic church in Eagle Grove, her former home on Thursday morning. Rev. T. R. Collins of Waverly officiated.

Mrs. Monaghan was born in West Meath, Ireland in 1853, and came to this country at the age of 18. Soon afterward she was married at Decatur, Ill. to Peter Monaghan, who died in March of this year. The family moved to Eagle Grove about 40 years ago but had lived in Waverly the last five years. Besides her son, John, at whose home she died, Mrs. Monaghan is survived by two grandsons and three great grandsons.

Funeral services for Mrs. Peter Monaghan whose death was related in last week's issue, were held Thursday morning at 9:30 at the Sacred Heart church. Father T. R. Collins of Waverly accompanied the funeral party here, and had charge of the services. Burial was in Calvary cemetery.

Mary Ann Gill was born in West Meath County, Ireland, in 1853, and came to the United States at the age of 18. In 1873 she was united in marriage to Peter Monaghan and for a short time, Mr. and Mrs. Monaghan lived on a farm at Decatur, Ill. Forty years ago they came to Iowa and resided on a farm near this city. Ten years ago they moved to Waverly to be near their son, John and family, returning here after five years. Mr. Monaghan died at his home in March of this year. Following his passing, Mrs. Monaghan went to Waverly to make her home with her son, John. She is survived by her son, John Monaghan of Waverly, two grandsons, three great grandchildren and one sister, Miss Kate Gill who lives in Ireland; A daughter, Etta, died 32 years ago.
