Miriam Mahood, 87, of Vinton, passed away Wednesday, July 25, 2007, at the Vinton Lutheran Home following a long illness. Mass of Christian Burial: 10:30 a.m. Saturday, St. Mary's Catholic Church in Vinton, by Father David Ambrosy. Visitation: 4 to 7 p.m. Friday at Russell Funeral Home in Vinton and also one hour before services at the church Saturday. Interment: St. Mary's Catholic Cemetery, Vinton.

Miriam was born March 22, 1920, in Renwick, Iowa, the daughter of James Howard and Grace Geraldine Packard McCurry. She graduated from Renwick High School in 1937 and went on to graduate from AIB in Des Moines. Miriam and Robert D. Mahood were united in marriage on July 26, 1941, at St. Mary's Rectory in Vinton. He preceded her in death on March 8, 1999. When Miriam first moved to Vinton, she worked as a legal secretary. Together with her husband, she had co-owned and operated Mahood's Shoe Store in Vinton since 1946. Miriam was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church in Vinton. She was a 62-year member of the George G. Luckey American Legion Auxiliary, and was also a Red Cross volunteer for many years.

Miriam is survived by one son, Bob (Jo Lynn) Mahood of Vinton; three daughters, Cathy (Mike Clausen) Froning of Littleton, Colo., Muriel (Dennis) Wood of Delhi and Lisa (Tim) Burgess of South Point, Ohio; one brother, Bill (Bea) McCurry of Webster City; one sister, Wilma Tatone of Minneapolis; two sisters-in-law, Ruth McCurry of Belmond and Marie Wilson of Livermore; seven grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Bob; one daughter, Kristi Mahood, in 1949; and two brothers, Don and Duane McCurry.
