Elmer Holmquist, beloved husband of Bessie Prehm Holmquist, dear brother of Mrs. E. O. Preston of Des Moines, Ia. At funeral home, Austin boulevard at Lake street, until 7 p.m., Monday. Funeral Wednesday at Eagle Grove, Ia. Interment Eagle Grove.

Elmer Holmquist, son of Tufve and Hannah Holmquist was born in Sweden, March 17, 1878. He died after a brief illness, May 11, 1946, in Chicago, Illinois, at the age of 68 years and 25 days. Mr. Holmquist, when a lad of six, came with his parents to the United States, settling in Des Moines. He was educated in the public schools of Des Moines. He was married to Bessie Prehm at Des Moines, August 24, 1910. He lived in Eagle Grove from 1905 until the time of his marriage and with Mrs. Holmquist remained here until 1924. They have lived in Chicago, Illinois, since.

Most of his adult life, he has been employed by the North Western railroad. While in Eagle Grove, he was engineer and later assistant fuel supervisor. For twenty-two years he was master mechanic on the Wisconsin division, largest division on the road. He retired in 1943. He was a member of Bower Lodge No. 464 A. F. & A. M., Eagle Grove chapter, Medina Council, Knight Templer, and Shrine. He was also a member of the Brotherhood of Locomotive Engineers.

He is survived by his wife and one sister, Mrs. Ida Preston of Des Moines, two sisters having preceded him in death. He also leaves other relatives and a great many friends, especially among railroad employees, man of whom he has supervised. Rev. Walter Ross officiated at the funeral services held Wednesday afternoon, May 15, at the Kastler Funeral Home. Pallbearers were Claude Birdsell, George Haskins, John Dinnie, Roy Walters, H. D. Nelson and A. B. Parsons....
