9 July 1953Funeral services for Milton Ramsey were held on Monday afternoon at the Congregational church. Rev A. B. McKeith officiated and Boone funeral service was in charge. Burial was made in Rowan cemetery.
Aged Resident Passes Friday
Milton Ramsey was born Dec. 4, 1867, in Buchanan county near Troy Mills to John Wesley and Sarah Jane Ramsey. He passed away July 3, 1953, from a heart attack at the age of 85 years, 7 months. Milton was united in marriage May 25, 1898, to Elsie Whitten at the Congregational parsonage in Rowan, with Rev. S. A. Martin officiating. He later became a member of this church in 1899 and never withdrew his membership. He and his family lived on farms in Lisbon and Donnybrook, N. D., and Latimer and Dows, finally settling in Belmond where they have lived nearly 40 years. He has always lived an active life and until the time of his death he enjoyed fishing, working in his garden and workshop where he made many gifts for his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. He and his wife had recently celebrated their 55th wedding anniversary with all their children and families present.
Surviving are his wife, Elsie, and children: Mrs. Chris (Leona) Klemensen of Clear Lake, Mrs. Wilford (Frances) Lewis of Mason City, Mrs. Wilbur (Mae) Linaweaver and Mrs. Dorothy Merritt of Belmond, Mrs. Malcolm (LaVonne) Churchill, Dan Ramsey, and Dale Ramsey of Des Moines, Mrs. James (Beulah) Thompson of Lockport, Ill., also a brother. Vessie of Troy Mills and sister, Sarah Miller of Walker; 14 grandchildren, 20 great-grandchildren and a host of relatives and friends. Two children preceded him in death, a daughter, Alma Carrie Grosser and an infant son, Alvin Richard. The last rites were held Monday afternoon in the Congregational church in Belmond with interment in the Graceland cemetery near Rowan.
