AUGUST 24, 2001BELMOND - The funeral for Marcella Wasko Halfwassen Jacobson will be held at 2 p.m. on Saturday at the Immanuel Reformed Church in Belmond, with the Rev. Robert Ford officiating. Interment will be in Immanuel Reformed Church Cemetery. Visitation will be held one hour before services on Saturday at the church.
Marcella Wasko Halfwassen Jacobson, 86, died on Wednesday (Aug. 22, 2001) in Plymouth, Minn., after a long illness. She was born on March 23, 1915, in Clarkson, Neb., to William W. Wasko and Magdalena Becker Roether Wasko. She was baptized on Oct. 10, 1915. She was educated in the Clarkson public schools and married Henry Halfwassen, of Meservey, on July 6, 1940. Two children were born to this marriage, William and Nancy. Widowed in 1974, she married Herbert Jacobson, of Adel, in 1989. They moved to Des Moines, where they lived until she was widowed again in 1998. Then she moved to the Minneapolis area, where she lived until her death. She was a charter member of the Belmond Community Hospital Auxiliary and a long time member of many women's clubs including the Belmond Arts Council, Federated Women's Club, and the Reformed Church Women's Fellowship. She became a member of the building committee of the Immanuel Reformed Church in Belmond, which was completed in 1967.
Marcella was preceded in death by her mother, father, two brothers and two husbands. Left to celebrate her life are her son, William and his wife, Caroline, of Bandon, Ore.; her daughter, Nancy Sonsin, and her husband, Bill, of New Hope, Minn.; five grandchildren, Scott Halfwassen, of San Francisco, Calif., Gretchen Paddock and her husband, Brian, of Esparto, Calif., Brian Halfwassen, of Hollywood, Calif., Sara Halfwassen, of Monterey, Calif., and Kris Sonsin, of Minneapolis; four great-grandchildren, Kyle, Nicholas, Alicia and Jessica Paddock; numerous nieces and nephews; in-laws, John and Loraine Halfwassen, of Belmond, and Lorraine Wasko, of Omaha, Neb.; and Mr. Jacobsons' children, Sue Van Werden and Ann Geadelmann, of Adel, and Steve Jacobson, of Wapello, and their families.
