LATIMER - Harry A. Kuhlers, 68, passed away Thursday (Nov. 9, 2000) at his home in Latimer. A memorial service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Evangelical Free Church in Belmond with the Rev. Patrick Kennedy officiating. Burial will be at 1:30 p.m. Friday, Nov. 10, at Immanuel Reformed Cemetery. Military rites will be under the direction of Hansen-Have American Legion Post No. 658 of Latimer. There will be no visitation. Dugger Ewing Funeral Home, Belmond, is in charge of arrangements.
Harry Andrew Kuhlers was born on April 15, 1932, in Cerro Gordo County to Henry and Elizabeth (Meints) Kuhlers. He attended grade school in Cerro Gordo County and graduated from Meservey High School in 1950. He graduated from the First Reformed Church Catechism in 1948. On June 19, 1952, he was united in marriage to Beverly Pals at the home of Jennie and Edd Peil. He entered the U.S. Army on July 1, 1952, serving for 18 months in Korea in the Postal Department. He was honorably discharged from the Army on June 15, 1954. Harry and Beverly farmed in Wright County from 1954 until 1986. In 1988 they purchased their home in Latimer. Since then he has worked in construction, sales, farming and the remodeling of their home in Latimer. For many years, Harry was a member of the First Reformed Church in Meservey, serving in both of the offices of Deacon and Elder. More recently he faithfully attended the Evangelical Free Church in Belmond. He was a member of the Hansen-Have American Legion Post No. 658, Veterans of Foreign Wars, Disabled American Veterans and Paralyzed Veterans of America.
Harry is survived by his wife, Beverly, of Latimer; six children, Dennis and his wife, Martha, of Marshalltown, Darwin and his wife, Jodi, of Fairmont, Minn., Diane and her husband, Randy Den Adel, of Ames, David and his wife, Julie, of Belmond, Dana and his wife, Sandy, of Fairmont, Minn., and Dawn and her husband, Eugene Goenner, of Elk River, Minn.; 15 grandchildren, Matthew, Megan and Mark Kuhlers, Brandon and Dara (Kuhlers) and her husband, Jeremiah Johnson, Justin and Jamie Den Adel, Jared and Jason Kuhlers, Michael, Anthony, James and Daniel Kuhlers, Andrew and Abigail Goenner; two brothers, Elmer and his wife, Eloise, of Brooksville, Fla., and Milton and his wife, Janice, of Stuart, Fla.; one sister, Frances and her husband, Eugene Ostendorf, of Rockford; two sisters-in-law, Minnie Kuhlers of Rockwell and Elvira Kuhlers of Meservey; aunts, Jennie Peil of Meservey, Grace Kuhlers and Bessie Kaduce, both of Belmond; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; one infant brother; his brothers, Raymond and Clarence; his sister and brother-in-law, Ione and Harvey Oltman; and his sister-in-law, Etta Kuhlers.
