John G. Johnson, 62, passed away on June 22, 2007 in Webster City, Iowa. John was born on March 5, 1945 to Marvin and Bernice Johnson in Tama, IA. He was raised in Eagle Grove where he attended Eagle Grove Community Schools and received an AA degree in Business Administration from Iowa Central Community College. John joined the U.S. Marine Corps in 1965. He was united in marriage January 20, 1966 at Immanuel Lutheran Church to Joyce Simpson in Fairmont, Minnesota. In January of 1966 he was shipped to Okinawa then on to Vietnam where he served with the A - Company, 1st Marine Division - 1st Tank Battalion. There he stayed until 1967 when he was released from active duty at the rank of Corporal. After being released from active duty, John and Joyce moved to Woolstock, IA where he began his career with Franklin Manufacturing. John also worked for Schuld Bin Company in Iowa Falls and as plant manager for Schuld Bin Company in Bushnell, IL, returning to Webster City in 1981 when he worked for Modern Farms Systems. He returned to Webster City Products in 1985 and retired in 1997 due to ill health as a manufacturing engineer. John was actively involved with the American Legion Post 191 serving on the executive board. John enjoyed gardening, woodworking, painting, and spending time with family especially his prized seven grandchildren.

He is survived by his wife Joyce and his four children Rod (Denise) Johnson of Des Moines, Teresa (Troy) Johnson of Newton, Chad (Libbie) Johnson of Webster City, and Krissi (Adam) Busch of Ankeny; seven grandchildren, Kelsie and Michael Johnson, Jacob, Sarah and Emma Johnson, and Brianna and Aydan Busch; two brothers, Marvin “Bus” (Gwen) Johnson of Eagle Grove and Bernard (Marlene) Johnson of Missouri; four sisters, Virgina Parrish of Jewell, Dolores (Marvin) Wergeland of Hardy, Marlene (Kenny) Vorland of Hardy, and Charlene (Duane) Baker of Scranton; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and grandparents.

Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. on Tuesday June 26 at Foster’s Funeral Home in Webster City with burial following at Graceland Cemetery with graveside military rites by the United States Marine Corps Honor Guard. Visitation will be held Monday June 25 from 5-8 p.m. at Foster’s Funeral Home.
