IOWA FALLS-- James Edward Smith, 76, of Iowa Falls died Sunday, Oct. 20, 2002, at his home. Services will be held Wednesday, Oct. 23, at Linn's Funeral Home in Iowa Falls with burial in Friends Cemetery, Iowa Falls. The family will receive friends Tuesday, Oct. 22, from 6-8 p.m. at the funeral home. Rev. Rhoda Preston will officiate.

James was born July 3, 1926, at Lu Verne to Lloyd and Anna Hansen Smith. He graduated from Lu Verne High School in 1944 and was inducted into the U.S. Army in 1950, transferred to the reserves in 1952 and was discharged in 1957. On July 13, 1857, he married Barbara Naylor in Las Vegas, Nev. Jim spent most of his life driving truck, many years as a driver for Umthun Trucking in Eagle Grove. Before retiring he drove for Emerson Trucking of Iowa Falls. He was a member of the Hampton A.A. Chapter. He is survived by two daughters, Judith Livasy of Fremont, Neb., and Peggy Tjarks of Iowa Falls; six grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; a brother, Lloyd (Jerry) Smith, of Dakota City ; and a sister, Ellen "Maxine" Putz, of Mountain Home, Ark. He was preceded in death by his parents; three sisters, Beverly Deibler, Donna and Patty Smith; and three brothers Robert, Richard and Larry Smith.
