Mason City (Iowa) Globe GazetteBELMOND — Funeral services for Harry William Palm Jr., 86, will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Trinity Lutheran Church with Pastor Jim Carpenter officiating. Interment will be in the North Prairie Cemetery, Scarville. Visitation will be held from 4 to 7 p.m. Tuesday at the Tenold Funeral Home, and will continue one hour prior to service time at the church on Wednesday.
Harry William Palm Jr. was born on June 4, 1912, the son of Harry William Sr. and Nina (Holt) Palm, at Ogema, Wis. He began his first teaching position at the Scarville High School in Scarville, Iowa, in the mid-1930s, where he later became the principal. On Aug. 13, 1939, Harry and Carol Solomonson were united in marriage at North Prairie Lutheran Church, rural Scarville. Shortly after, the couple moved to Forest City, Iowa. From there they moved to Preston, Iowa, and later, to Dows, Iowa, where Harry taught science and math from 1941 until 1954. It was then that they moved their family to Lake City, Iowa, where Harry taught until retirement in 1974. In 1976, Harry and Carol moved to Belmond, Iowa. Harry enjoyed woodworking and he was an active member of Trinity Lutheran Church. Harry died on Saturday (Feb. 13, 1999) at the Belmond Health Care Center, Belmond.
Survivors include his wife, Carol, of Belmond; two sons, Michael Palm and his wife, Jan, of Spencer, and Warren Palm and his wife, Bunny Seymour, of Decorah; three grandchildren, Kari Roskens, Lisa Palm and Julie Palm; three great-grandchildren, Kalei, Brandt and Alec Roskens; and four brothers, Robert Palm and his wife, Clara, of Michigan City, Ind., Edgar Palm and his wife, Mary, of Minneapolis, Arthur Palm and his wife, Marge, of Redding, Calif., and James Swanson of Milwaukee, Wis. He was preceded in death by his parents, and his brother, Richard Palm.
