04/13/1996NORA SPRINGS -- Loren R. "Tuffy" Sheckler, 77, of Scottsdale, Ariz., formerly of Nora Springs, died Thursday (April 11, 1996) at Scottsdale Memorial Hospital North, Scottsdale, Ariz. Funeral services will be held 10:30 a.m. Monday, at the United Methodist Church, 202 N. Hawkeye, Nora Springs, with Rev. Richard L. Pippert, officiating. Burial will be in Park Cemetery, Nora Springs, where military honors will be conducted by members of H.D.S. American Legion Post, #449, Nora Springs. Visitation will be held from 4 to 8 p.m. Sunday at Sheckler Colonial Chapel, 114 N. Hawkeye, Nora Springs, and one hour prior to services at the church, Monday. Memorials may be given to the United Methodist Church, Nora Springs, in memory of Tuffy.
Loren Roy Sheckler was born June 17, 1918 at Prairie du Chien, Wis., a son of Fred Roy and Mae (Harding) Sheckler. He moved to Nora Springs at the age of 11 where his father operated the Sheckler Funeral Home. He married Trudy Michels on July 11, 1946 at Clarion, Iowa. He was a 1935 graduate of Nora Springs High School, a graduate of Mason City Junior College and the St. Louis College of Mortuary Science in 1942. He served in the United States Air Corps Marine Division, during World War II. Along with his brother, Howard, he operated the Sheckler Brothers Funeral Home, until 1970, when it became known as Sheckler Funeral Home. He also operated Sheckler Interiors, Nora Springs. Following his retirement in 1982, Tuffy and his wife, Trudy moved to Scottsdale, Ariz. He enjoyed golf and fishing and was an avid Iowa Hawkeye Supporter. He was member of United Methodist Church, Nora Springs; National Funeral Diectors Association; Iowa Funeral Directors Association; H.D.S. American Legion Post #449, Nora Springs; and a 50 year member of the Masonic Lodge.
He is survived by his wife, Trudy Sheckler, Scottsdale, Ariz.; two daughters, Vicki Sheckler and Mrs. Donavan (Janey) Dahl, both of Scottsdale, Ariz.; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Howard and Russell Sheckler; and one sister, Norma Tatum. Visitation was held Saturday at Shadow Mountain Mortuary, Phoenix, Ariz.
