HAMPTON — Elizabeth (Jurgens) Koenen, 85, of Hampton, died Thursday (Aug. 26, 2004) at the Shef-field Care Center in Sheffield. Funeral service will be held at 1:30 p.m. Saturday at Zion Reformed Church in rural Sheffield, with the Rev. Arthur J. Zewert officiating. Burial will be in the Zion Reformed Church Cemetery in rural Sheffield. Visitation will be held from 4 to 7 p.m. today at the Sietsema-Vogel Funeral Home in Hampton. She was born Feb. 1, 1919, in Franklin County, Iowa, to Herman T. Jurgens and Minnie (Koenen) Jurgens. She was united in marriage to Johnnie Koenen on April 9, 1941, in Franklin County. They farmed in Franklin County until 1993 when they retired and moved to Hampton. She was a member of the Zion Reformed Church. She was baptized in 1919 at Zion Reformed Church. She became a member of Zion in 1938. She was also a member of Zion RCW, a past Sunday school and catechism teacher and a member of Neighborhood Friendship Club. She loved to write poems, making her books and her family tree history. She also enjoyed traveling, visiting with friends and being with family.

Survivors include a son, Keith Koenen, and fiancee, Cindy Rolling, of Sheffield; a daughter, Karlene Willemsen, of Eugene, Ore.; sister-in-law, Ruth Jurgens of Sheboygan, Wis.; sister-in-law, Eleanor Jurgens of Clear Lake; sister-in-law Gertie Frohling of Rowan; four grandchildren, Jalene and husband, Steve, Ryan and wife, Jennifer, and Jeff and Jim; four great-grandchildren, Zachary and Eva, Kolton and Kendal; special friends Ryan and Jason; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Johnnie; one sister, Esther; two brothers, Ed and Bill; and one grandson, Rodney Willemsen. Sietsema-Vogel Funeral Home.
