CLEAR LAKE — Vivian Lenora Nelson, 88, formerly of Clear Lake, died Thursday (July 2, 1998) at Fort Madison Community Hospital, Fort Madison, Iowa. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday at First Congregational Church, Clear Lake, with the Rev. Thomas Healey officiating. Rebekah’s service will be at the beginning of the funeral service. Interment will be held in Ventura Cemetery, Ventura. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday at the Ward-Van Slyke Colonial Chapel, 101 N. Fourth St., Clear Lake. Memorials may be given to the Vivian Nelson Memorial Fund.

Vivian was born Dec. 15, 1909, the daughter of John and Mabel (Ogden) Norris, at Galt, Iowa. She attended Clarion High School, graduating in 1927. Vivian married Rasmus Nelson on March 6, 1932, in Clear Lake, Iowa. After they were married, they lived near Ventura on a rented farm until they purchased a farm near Clear Lake in 1936. Vivian moved to Fort Madison in March 1996. Vivian was a 70-year member of the Rebekah’s. She joined Lena Rebekah Lodge No. 279, Galt, Iowa, in March 1928; and transferred to the Tina Rebekah Lodge No. 105, Clear Lake, Iowa. She was president of the Rebekah Assembly of Iowa, 1950-51, president Department Association Ladies Auxiliary Patriarchs Militant, 1959-60; Rebekah Assembly Secretary for 20 years and received Secretary Emeritus; president of International Association of Rebekah Assembly Secretaries from 1983-84. She was a member of the Pioneer Auxiliary L.A.P.M. No. 3, Des Moines, and a member of the First Congregational Church, Clear Lake. Her favorite pastimes included crafts, knitting and crocheting.

Vivian is survived by her daughter, Norma L. Miller and her husband, Larry, of Fort Madison; granddaughters, Cristi Prenger and her husband, James, of Quincy, Ill., and Stephanie Miller, of Fort Madison; and great-grandsons, Matthew Prenger and Jeffrey Prenger. She was preceded in death by both parents, her husband and one brother.
