BELMOND - Funeral services for Vernon Dean Dippel, 68, of Belmond will be 1:30 p.m. Thursday at the Calvary Baptist Church in Belmond, with Pastor Steven Cox officiating. Military rites will be conducted at the church by the Belmond Honor Guard. Inurnment will be held at a later date in the Belmond Cemetery.
Visitation will be held from 5 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the Tenold Funeral Home and one hour prior to services on Thursday at the church.

Vernon Dean Dippel was born Aug. 16, 1932, on a farm near Belmond, the son of Edward and Anna (Adams) Dippel. He attended the Belmond schools and graduated in 1950. Vernon worked at Sphan & Rose and did carpentry work for Ted Zook and later for Ted Meyers. He enlisted in the United States Army in 1953 during the Korean War and was stationed in Alaska. He was discharged in April of 1956 from Fort Riley, Kan.

In January of 1956, he married Lily Wenzel and to this union seven children were born. He worked at Thompsen's Clothing, Kinseth's Plumbing & Heating, Nelson Sand & Gravel, Tomson Seed Company, which later became ACCO and then Cargill. He enjoyed fishing and bowling. He died on Sunday (Dec. 3, 2000) at the Ellsworth Community Hospital in Iowa Falls.

Those thankful for sharing in his life are Dean Dippel, of Ames, Dennis Dippel, of Belmond, Dawn Harris and her husband, Randall, of Carpentersville, Ill., Daryl Dippel, and his wife, Connie, of Ankeny, Dixie Daniels and her husband, Tim, of Garner, and Daniel Dippel, of Belmond; 11 grandchildren, Nicholaus Schmit, Isaac Schmit, Peter Daniels, Kandyce Daniels, Emily Schmit, Nathan Dippel, Randi Harris, Bryant Dippel, Zachary Harris, Austin Dippel and Natalee Dippel; one brother, Gary Dippel and his wife, Nita, of Marion; an aunt, Viv Benedik and her husband, Frank, of Tama; two uncles, Tom Adams and his wife, Shirley, of Tama, and Dewey Adams; also many nieces, nephews, and cousins. Preceding him in death were his parents; one son, Dylan; and uncles and aunts. Tenold Funeral Home.
