Lambert Menke dies in hospital

Lambert Menke, 69, retired employe of Jacob E. Decker and Sons, died Friday evening [December 1964] in a Mason City hospital. He had lived in Mason City 40 years and made his home at 652 S. Tennessee Place. Mr. Menke was born Oct. 27, 1895, in Garner, son of Harm and Elzina (Weintjes) Menke. He attended country schools and Belmond schools and farmed near Belmond several years. He moved to Mason City in 1924 and attended Hamilton College. He was married to Ruth Meinders June 25, 1924, in Mason City. For about 20 years he operated the Acorn Cafe on S. Delaware before starting his employment with Jacob Decker and Sons. He continued with Deckers in the shipping department until his retirement in October 1963.

Surviving are his wife; three daughters, Mrs. Homer (Adeline) Perry, Glendale,Calif.; Mrs William (Avis) Miller, Mason City, and Mrs Rod (Phyllis) Wright, Msaon City; a son, Junior Menke, Mason City and 11 grandchildren. A brother, John Menke, Thornton; and four half-brothers, George Menke, Sunnyvale, Calif.; Harm Menke, Rochester, Minn.; Titus Menke, Clear Lake, and Alfred Menke, Garner; and a half-sister, Mrs. Tony (Anna Mae) Mills, Vacaville, Calif., also survive. He was preceded in death by a half-sister, Mrs. Glen (Grace) Kingery, Fresno., Calif.

Mr. Menke was a long-time member of St Paul's Lutheran Church of Mason City. The funeral will be The Rev. Duane Schroeder will officate. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. Friends may call at the Major-Erickson Funeral Chapel from 3 p.m. Sunday until noon Monday.
