Ruth Arlene Ersland, 78, of Belmond, formerly of Kenyon, Minn., died Tuesday (Aug. 27, 1996) at the home of her daughter in rural Belmond. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at the Gol Lutheran Church, Kenyon, Minn., with the Rev. Lloyd Thorsen officiating. Burial will be in Gol Cemetery, Kenyon, Minn. Visitation will be held from 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the Tenold
Funeral Home, Belmond. Visitation will be held from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday at the Hansen Funeral Home, Kenyon, Minn. Those wishing to make an expression of sympathy, can direct their memorials to the Ruth Ersland Memorial Fund.

Ruth Arlene (Lein) Ersland, the daughter of Oscar O. and Alice A. (Ellingsen) Lein, was born on Tuesday, March 26, 1918. She was united in marriage to Richard Lynn Ersland and to this union, five children were born. Ruth was a member of Gol Lutheran Church, Sons of Norway, Goodhue Extension Organization and a Kenyon exercise group. Over the years, she provided respite care for friends and families, assisted with donations to the Marie Sandvig Shelter in Minneapolis and most recently began making quilts for children staying at the Ronald McDonald House in the Twin Cities. She was active in her church and community and enjoyed making trips to see her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She and Richard enjoyed their flowers and gardening. Ruth was "Grandma"' to any child who stopped for a cookie, a listening ear, or perhaps a special hug. When asked, she would assist at the elementary school for reading programs or attend a "special day" activity as a substitute grandmother.

Ruth's memory will be cherished by her husband, Richard; sons, Gary Ersland and his wife, Meredith, of Belmond; and Larry Ersland
and his wife, Janice, of Belmond; daughters, Roberta Kraling and Larry McBain of Belmond; and Rebecca Ersland and Tom Aeiling of Winona, Minn.; daughter-in-law, Beverly Hogy and her husband, Bruce, of Morristown, Minn.; grandchildren, Michelle Dorr, Gregory Ersland, Melissa Ersland, Mitchell Ersland, Michael Ersland, Eric Kraling, Joshua Kraling, Todd Solberg, Jonathan Solberg, Cherie Bongers and Chad Ersland; 10 great-grandchildren; and two brothers, Kenneth Lein and his wife, Janis, of Lake Mills; and Wayne Lein and his wife, Jean, of Belmond. Preceding her in death were her parents; a son, Randall Ersland; two sisters, Marjorie Sheriff and Opal Peterson; and two brothers, Luverne and Arlon Lein.
