Corene A. Dorr, 79, of Belmond, died Wednesday (Dec. 25, 1996) at the Belmond Community Hospital, of leukemia. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday at St. Francis Xavier Church, Belmond, with Father John Paisley and Deacon Nick Schmit officiating. Burial will be in St. Francis Catholic Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 2 to 9 p.m. Sunday at the Dugger Ewing Funeral Home, Belmond, with a 2:30 p.m. parish rosary and a 7 p.m. Scriptural wake service. There will be further visitation one hour before services on Monday at the church.

Corene was born on Jan. 21, 1917, at Fulda, Minn., the daughter of Adolph J. and Anna (Sullivan) Dorr. The family returned to farm near Belmond the same year. Corene graduated from Belmond High School in 1935 and attended Drake University. She worked for the United States Army in Des Moines as a civilian employee. She later worked for the State of Iowa, Department of Vital Statistics and later transferred to the United States Treasury (IRS) at Des Moines and Kansas City. Corene was a member of St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church, the Rosary Society and Catholic Daughters of the Americas. She was a former member of the Mended Hearts, Chapter No. 222 in Mason City.

Corene is survived by two sisters, Irene Chapman of Eagle Grove and Helen Dorr of Belmond; a sister-in-law, Mrs. Arthur Dorr of Terre Haute, Ind.; nieces and nephews and their children, Kathy McMurray of Des Moines, Joan Montfort of Orlando, Fla., Sharon Abele of Olympia, Wash., James and Judy Chapman of Algona, Arthur and Mary Chapman of Eagle Grove, Jerry and Jan Chapman of Rogers, Minn., and Richard and Mary Chapman of Billings, Mont. She is also survived by many good, supportive friends, relatives and neighbors. She was preceded in death by her parents; and four brothers, Earl, Otto, Arthur and Charles.
