Cherokee Democrat, Iowa April 3, 1895

Mrs. F.A. Gates, wife of the late editor of the Cherokee Herald, died at Eagle Grove on Sunday evening at 5 o’clock. The deceased has been a sufferer from consumption for a long time and during the residence of the family in Cherokee she was the subject of tender solicitude on the part of the family and friends. Her death will be mourned by all who became acquainted with her while here. Claude M. Gates, who has remained here to settle up his business affairs in connection with the Herald, left on Monday for Eagle Grove in response to a telegram announcing the sad news.
