Marilyn I. Lempke, 78, of Humboldt, passed away March 25, 2007 at Mercy Medical Center in Mason City. Interment will be at 9:30 a.m. Wednesday at Newark Township Cemetery, Vincent. Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m. Wednesday at Our Saviour’s Lutheran Church in Humboldt with the Rev. David Cox officiating. Visitation with the family is from 4-8 p.m. today at the Mason-Lindhart Funeral Home in Humboldt.

Mrs. Lempke is survived by her children, Cynthia (Paul) Clay of Humboldt, Vicki (Craig) Kinseth of Overland Park, KS, Greg (Jill) Lempke of Livermore, and Lori (Paul) Schmidt of Ottosen; 11 grandchildren; 6 great grandchildren; and sisters, Karen Hinderks of Webster City, and Kathy Maxon of Waseca, MN. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, James Lempke; infant twins, Curt and Colleen Lempke; brothers, Roger and John Nessa; and sisters, Doris Brattmiller and Karla Nessa.

Marilyn I. Nessa, the daughter of Irvin and Iva (Knutson) Nessa, was born March 21, 1929 at Thor, Iowa. She received her education in the Thor area and graduated from Eagle Grove High School. She attended Iowa State Teachers College at Cedar Falls and taught school until her marriage to James Lempke on June 19, 1949. The couple made their home for a short time on a farm near Vincent until moving to a farm south of Livermore. In 1960, they purchased their farm in Humboldt County and Marilyn was active in the farming operations. Mr. Lempke passed away in August of 1987 and Marilyn continued to maintain her home on the farm until moving to Humboldt. Mrs. Lempke was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church at Livermore until moving to Humboldt where she was a member of Our Saviour’s Lutheran Church. She was also a member of the Red Hat Ladies Society and several bridge and card clubs. She enjoyed following her grandchildren’s activities and following Twins, Vikings, and Iowa State University sporting events. She was and avid gardener and cook and enjoyed quilting.
