Velva Violetta Bostrom
July 23, 1916 February 4, 2007.Born in Woolstock Township, Iowa. Passed away at the age of 90 at Golden Living Center - Linden in Stillwater. Preceded in death by her father, Milton Edward Bump, stepfather Harold A. Johnson, mother Dora Johnson, brother Eli Bump, sister Mary Dehn, and husband of 57 1/2 years Henry D. Bostrom. Survived by daughter Judy (Pat), estranged son Mark, sister-in-law Linnea Schummer, sister-in-law Marie Bump, 13 nieces and nephews, and many grand nieces and nephews. Following graduation from Iowa Falls High School, Velva moved to the Midway area of St. Paul with her mother, brother, and sister. There she worked as a beautician to help her mother support the family until her brother and sister were out of school. After Henry was drafted to serve in World War II, Velva moved with Henry whenever he was transferred to a different Army base. She did the same when Woolworth's transferred Henry to various stores in the Upper Midwest. They settled in Twin Cities for 17 years before buying a small grocery store/variety store combination in Blair, Wisconsin where Velva oversaw the operations of the variety store. In retirement Velva and Henry spent summers in Lindstrom, MN and winters in Clearwater, FL. Velva moved back to Minnesota full-time in September 2004. Throughout her life Velva was an avid card player, at one time belonging to three different bridge clubs. She only quit playing 500 in July 2006 because of health issues. She never understood her daughter's aversion to cards. Out of respect for Velva's wishes, no services will be held. Following cremation, interment will be in Fort Snelling National Cemetery with husband Henry.
