Betty Ilene Nelson, the daughter of Peter A. and Esther V. (Nelsen) Nelson was born August 3, 1924 in Lu Verne, IA. She graduated from Renwick High School in 1941 and then attended Eagle Grove Junior College. In 1942, at the age of 17, she moved to Washington, D.C. where she began her exemplary 43 year career with the U. S. Government. During her career with the U. S. Government, Betty worked in Washington, D. C. and Kansas City, MO; however the majority of her career was spent in Des Moines, Iowa. After retiring as an Administrative Secretary with the U. S. Government, Betty continued to work in Des Moines, Iowa for the Polk County Personnel Department for the next ten years. In 1992 Betty moved to Fort Dodge, Iowa to be near and to assist in the care of her Mother. Betty enjoyed life spending time with her family and friends and traveling. She was a member of St Paul Lutheran Church, and had been active in the Women’s Circle and Monday afternoon Bible classes. One of Betty’s greatest enjoyments in life were her many nieces and nephews. She was a devoted Aunt who loved each of them dearly as they in turn loved her. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St Paul Lutheran Church, Hospice of Fort Dodge, or to the discretion of the family.
