Charles J. "Charlie" Bell, 65, of Port Orchard, Washington died April 28, 2000, at his home following a long battle with cancer. He was born March 9, 1935, in Clarion, Iowa, to John and Laura (Brooks) Bell. He was raised in Clarion, Iowa, where he graduated from high school in 1954. He married Dorothy Simon on Sept. 26, 1959, in Bremerton. Mr. Bell served in the Navy. He worked as a machinist and plannerman in Shop 31 at Puget Sound Naval Shipyard, retiring in 1990. Mr. Bell was actively involved in wrestling programs in South Kitsap, had been assistant wrestling coach at North Kitsap High School and served as head wrestling coach at Kingston Junior High School until his illness forced him to retire.
Survivors include his wife; his stepmother, Rose Bell of Clarion; one son, Gary Bell of Port Orchard; three daughters, Laura Bell of Silverdale and Kathy Bell and Sandy Griffin, both of Port Orchard; two sisters, Connie Anderson of Clarion and Kay Wilimek of Des Moines, Iowa; and six grandchildren.
A memorial service is planned for 11 a.m. Tuesday at Christ the Rock Community Church in Port Orchard. Arrangements are under the direction of Lewis Funeral Chapel with cremation at Cherry Grove Memorial Park in Poulsbo and inurnment at Forest Lawn Cemetery.
