January 21, 2000Alice Naomi Keeling, 90, died Tuesday (Jan. 18, 2000) at the Community Memorial Hospital in Clarion. Memorial services will be held at 11 a.m. today at the Church of Christ, Clarion, with Mark Young officiating. Burial of her ashes will follow in Evergreen Cemetery, Clarion. Willim Funeral Home, Clarion, is in charge of the arrangements.
Alice Naomi Dresher was born April 15, 1909, on a farm southwest of Kanawha in Hancock County. Her parents were William and Eva (Mortz) Dresher. Alice became the bride of Orie Ned Keeling on Dec. 17, 1930, at Belmond in the Reformed Church parsonage. Their first home was west of Goodell, where Orie started farming. They lived there for two years. They then moved to a farm west of Popejoy and Orie worked for Frank DeForest for three years. Later they moved to a farm near Clarion and Orie worked for Ralph Marshall for two years. They then moved into Clarion, where Orie worked for Cliff Evans and Dewey Simmons and hauled coal for Telford's. In 1947 they moved to a farm five miles east of Clarion, where they farmed until they retired in 1980. After they retired, they made their home in Belmond. Her husband Orie died in July of 1995. In 1997, Alice entered the Leinbach Center at Belmond and resided there until she entered the hospital last March. Alice died Tuesday, Jan. 18, at Community Memorial Hospital, Clarion, at the age of 90. Alice liked working in her garden and yard, sewing for her children, grand and great-grandchildren, doing needle work, fishing and entertaining her family of 34 at Easter, Thanksgiving and Christmas. She was a member of the marathon 500 Card Club and the Grandmothers Club in Belmond.
Alice is survived by her children, Lois and her husband, Raynard Southard, Clarion, Beverly and her husband, Robert Delger, Clarion, Shirley and her husband, Gerald Curran, Waterloo, Judy and her husband, Roger Wiemann, Alexander, and Verlyn Keeling and his wife, Joyce, Rowan; 12 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; and sisters, Effie and Ila Mae. Alice was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; three brothers, Ed, Dutch and Charles; a sister, Margaret; and a great-grandson, Michael Alan Johnson.
