Last rites for Florain J. Nelson, 75, were held Tuesday morning at Bethany Lutheran Church, Thompson. Pastors Philip and Marilyn Peters officiated. Scripture passages were read by Kristi Jacobson, a niece, and Rev. Clifford Nelson, a brother-in-law. Mary Ann Olsen was the organist. Special music was provided by the Bethany Senior Choir "There's Something About That Name," "What A Friend" and "It Is Well With My Soul" and by Elmer Olson. Congregational hymns were "No One Ever Cared For Me Like Jesus" and "The Lord's Prayer." Casket bearers were her nieces and nephews: Kelli Anderson, Bradley Bakken, Brian Bakken, Kristi Jacobson, Matthew Peterson, Nathan Peterson, Lisa Roosen and Sarah Wickum. Interment was in St. Olaf Cemetery, Belmond, with Winter Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.

Born April 13, 1924, in Webster County to Harris and Josephine (Saboe) Peterson, Florain was baptized at Badger Lutheran Church and confirmed at Zion Lutheran Church in Dexter, Minn. She graduated from Augustana Academy in Canton, S. Dak., and from the Lutheran Brethren Bible School in Fergus Falls, Minn. On March 19, 1949, she was married to Norris P. Nelson at Badger. The couple farmed in the Scarville area after their marriage. Mrs. Nelson was a member of Bethany Lutheran Church, Thompson, where she taught Sunday School for many years, sang in the church choir and was an active member of WELCA.

Survivors include her husband Norris of rural Scarville; their children: Norrine and her husband James Heesch of Seymour, Gerald Nelson and his wife Cynthia Matson of Kiester, Minn., Timothy and his wife Linda Nelson of Chino Hills, Calif., Helen and her husband Aaron Rognehaugh of Loveland, Colo., and Arlyn and his wife Kris Nelson of Fergus Falls, Minn.; grandchildren: Codi and her husband David Florain Christianson of Joice, Clint and his wife Andrew Heesch of Seymour, Landon and Graham Nelson of Kiester, Minn., Wade and Sondra Rognehaugh of Loveland, Colo., and Jessica, Matthew and Jacob Haws of Fergus Falls, Minn.; greatgrandchildren: Tuff and Colt Christianson and Tell and Wyatt Heesch; two brothers, John and his wife Marilyn Peterson of Apple Valley, Minn., and Paul and his wife Shirley Peterson of Kenyon, Minn.; one sister, Lyla and her husband James Fugelberg of Shell Lake, Wis.; brothers and sisters-in-law: Rev. Clifford Nelson and his wife Elnor of St. Cloud, Minn., Mildred Meyer of Toledo, Ohio, Rev. Everett Nelson and his wife Clara of Dent, Minn., Esther Larson and her husband Roy of Pelican Rapids Minn.; and Rueben Nelson and his wife Elly of Belmond; and many nieces, nephews and other relatives. She was preceded in death by her parents; her brother, Gerald A. Peterson; her sister-in-law, Ruth Lonnevik; and her brothers-in-law, Russell Lonnevik and Alfred Meyer.

SCARVILLE - Florain Nelson, 75, of Scarville, died on Friday (Sept. 24, 1999) near Vinje, Iowa, as of the result of an auto accident. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at the Bethany Lutheran Church, in Thompson, with Pastors Philip and Marilyn Peters officiating. Burial will be in St. Olaf Cemetery, in Belmond. Visitation will be held from 4 to 8 p.m. today at the Winter Funeral Home, in Thompson, and one hour prior to services at the church. Winter Funeral Home, (515) 584-2520.
