Blake E. Thayer, 26, Belmond, died Saturday (Dec. 21, 1996) at North Iowa Mercy Health Center East, Mason City. Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday at United Methodist Church, Belmond with the Rev. Ken Fineran officiating. Burial will be at the Belmond Cemetery. Visitation will be held on from 2 to 9 p.m. today at Tenold Funeral Home, and one hour prior to services at the church.

Blake was born on Oct. 29, 1970 in Belmond to Randall and Constance (Benway) Thayer. Blake was a 1989 graduate of the Belmond High School, and attended North Iowa Area Community College in Mason City, and graduated with an associate in Applied Science Degree, with his major in Mechanical Design Technology. He worked for Vortex Engineering in Mason City, for a short time and has been a Detail Drafter with Winnebago Industries in Forest City since 1991. He was a member of Pheasants Forever, and enjoyed hunting, fishing, snowmobiling, cooking and camping. He joined the Belmond Volunteer Fire Department in 1994 and obtained his Fire Fighter I Certification. He loved children and entertained them by playing Smokey The Bear.

He is survived by his parents, Randall and Connie Thayer of Belmond; one brother, Brett Thayer and his wife, Lisa, of West Des Moines; one nephew, Carter Thayer; a grandfather, Gail Thayer of Forest City; and a grandmother, Jean Mills of Mesa, Ariz. He was preceded in death by his grandmother, Elveta Benway; and grandfather, Rex Benway.
