Helen Chastine Andrews Bliss, 80, of Keokuk, died at 1:40 p.m. Monday, July 18, 2005, at Montebello Health Care Center in Hamilton, Ill. Born March 22, 1925, in Lineville, she was the daughter of Ivan B. and Mary Hampton Hickman. On March 20, 1946, she married Edwin C. Andrews Jr. He died in 1948. On Dec. 16, 1950, she married James W. Bliss. He died in 1998. Mrs. Bliss was an elementary school teacher from 1950 to 1972, teaching in Paulina, Dows and Corning, but primarily in Keokuk. She was a 1942 graduate of Laurens High School in Laurens. She attended Carthage College in Carthage, Ill., and Northeast Missouri State University in Kirksville, Mo., and graduated from Iowa State Teacher's College in Cedar Falls in 1950.

Survivors include one son, Gregg F. Andrews of Coralville; seven grandchildren; four great–grandchildren; one sister, Patricia Flint of Olathe, Kan., and several nieces and nephews. besides her husbands, she was preceded in death by her parents, one son and one brother. Visitation will be from 5 to 6:30 p.m. today at Lamporte Funeral Home in Hamilton. The funeral for Mrs. Bliss will be at 7 p.m. today at Lamporte Funeral Home. A private family burial will be at a later date. Memorials have been established for Montebello Health Care Center and the National Alzheimer's Disease Research Program.
