Dorothy Ann (Root) Cheever, 83, of Ames, died Sunday, Oct. 31, at Mary Greeley Medical Center in Ames due to heart failure. Her body was donated to the University of Iowa Hospital. A memorial service will be at 2 p.m. today at First United Methodist Church in Ames, with the Rev. Chuck Kelsey officiating. A luncheon will follow.

Dorothy was born Feb. 17, 1921, in Dows. She was the daughter of George and Bessie (Annett) Root and was one of seven girls. She married Raymond Howard Cheever Jan. 7, 1938. They lived and farmed in the Chapin area until they moved to Ames in 1956. She loved to spend time with her family and friends. She loved being a farmer's wife. While on the farm, she and Raymond enjoyed square dancing, playing cards and being a 4-H leader. She loved the Iowa State Fair and went every year supporting 4-H. Recently, she loved spending time with family and friends, tending to her flowers and going shopping at Wal-Mart.

She is survived by one son, Raymond (Eve) of Kimberling City, Mo., two daughters, Judy (Ken) Shuey of Boone and Nancy (Dick) Sayre of Danville, Ind.; three sisters; 10 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild. She was preceded in death by her husband in 1979, her parents and three sisters. She will be greatly missed by all of those that loved her dearly. Memorial contributions may be made to the family.
