ONSLOW — Laura H. Reiss, 95, of Onslow, died Thursday at the Anamosa Care Center, Anamosa. Burial will be in the Wyoming Cemetery. She was born Oct. 28, 1911, in Scotch Grove Township near Onslow to Nicholas C. and Toni Rohwedder Holst. She married Calvin Reiss on Sept. 10, 1944, in Cedar Rapids. She attended country school and graduated from Onslow High School in 1929 and from Iowa State College in Ames in 1933. She taught home economics in Stanwood and Eagle Grove. She then served as an Iowa State University extension home economist in Butler, Bremer and Benton Counties. The couple lived in Vinton until 1946, when they moved to her parent’s farm near Onslow and started farming in partnership with her parents until 1954. They later took over the operation of the farm until they retired in 1974 and moved to Onslow. She was a long-time member of the Onslow Presbyterian Church serving as an elder and Sunday school teacher and was an active member of the Onslow Christian Service Guild. She was a 4-H Club leader and served on the County 4-H Committee. She also served two terms on the State 4-H Committee. She was an honorary member of the Altrurian Federated Women’s Club of Onslow.

She is survived by her husband; a daughter, Marie (William) Hacke of Center Junction; three grandchildren; and four great grandchildren. Memorials can be made to the Onslow Presbyterian Church. She was preceded in death by her parents and one sister. Visitation: 1 to 4 p.m. Sunday at Lahey Funeral Home in Wyoming. SERVICES: 10 a.m. Monday at the Onslow Presbyterian Church with the Rev. Tom Miller officiating.
