Frank P. Abraham, 101, of 902 Cherry Circle, Mt. Pleasant, died at 10:15 p.m. on Tuesday, July 12, 1994, at the New London Care Center. Born July 27, 1892, on the family farm southeast of Mt. Pleasant, he was the son of Lot and Mary E. Blout Abraham, and the grandson of an early settler of Henry County. On Jan. 21, 1921, in Miami, Fla., he married Cora B. Johnson of Eagle Grove, Iowa, who preceded him in death in March of 1974. On Oct. 2, 1975, in Mt. Pleasant, he married Virginia E. Wright Fleming of Valparaiso, Ind., who survives.

He was a member of the 1910 class of Iowa Wesleyan Academy and went on to Iowa State College to pursue an agricultural course, graduating in 1912. During WWI, he served in the Field Artillery as a lieutenant. After his service he returned to the family farm, taking over the operation so his father might travel. Later he purchased the farm and raised purebred Hereford cattle. He was a charter member and past commander of the Bob Tribby Post #58 American Legion, he was active in both local and state levels, and was past Grand Chef De Gare of the Forty and Eight of the State of Iowa. During WWII, he was chairman of the Henry County Selective Service Board throughout the war and was recently honored for this service. He was a charter member of the Henry County Farm Bureau, serving also on the local and state levels as a delegate, and was on various committees and boards in this organization. He helped organize and served as director and president of the Henry County Livestock Shipping Association. He served on the Henry County Fair Board in the 1920’s and 1930’s. He was a member of the Sons of Union Veterans of the Civil War, Greenville, M. Dodge Camp #75, Department of Iowa, and a member of the Mt. Pleasant Masonic Lodge #8 AF & AM, and was recently honored for over 75 years of membership. He was a member of the Henry County York Rite Masons and KAABA Shrine since 1919. He was a former member of the County Club on the river. Retiring from the farm in 1955, he moved into Mt. Pleasant where he continued to volunteer as long as he was physically able. He was a member of the Disciples of Christ Church, but was also associated with the First Presbyterian Church of Mt. Pleasant.

Among those surviving him are his wife and one nephew, Everett Wright, both of Mt. Pleasant. He was also preceded in death by his parents; one brother, John; and three sisters, Margaret, Kate Bourne, and Mary Wright. Visitation will begin at noon on Thursday at the Weir Funeral Home in Mt. Pleasant, where a memorial has been established to the Shriners Crippled Children’s Hospital and Burn Center. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, July 15, at the First Presbyterian Church in Mt. Pleasant, with the Rev. Larry Mitchell officiating. Interment with full military honors will be held in the Forest Home Cemetery.
