Charles “Charlie” Mitchell Forbes, 58, of Marshalltown, died Sunday afternoon, January 14, 2007, at the Lutheran Home in Strawberry Point, IA. Funeral services and a celebration of his life will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday, January 19th, at the Mitchell Family Funeral Home with Bobby Shomo officiating. He will be laid to rest in Rose Hill Memorial Gardens with full military honors provided by the VFW Harry C. Harter Post #839. Friends may call at the Mitchell Family Funeral Home in Marshalltown from 6-8:00 p.m. on Thursday, January 18th. The Mitchell Family Funeral Home is caring for Charles and his family.

Born Charles Mitchell Forbes on March 19, 1948 in Parkersburg, West Virginia, he was the son of Cleo Glenn and Ruby (Bowling) Forbes. He graduated from Eagle Grove High School in 1967, and attended Marshalltown Community College. He proudly served our country in the United States Navy for 20 years, retiring in 1999. After retiring from the Navy, he worked at the Iowa Veteran’s Home and various antique shops in Des Moines. He was united in marriage to Diane Gaglio in Hoboken, New Jersey. Charlie enjoyed spending time with his family, researching his family genealogy, and truly loved antiques. He was a member of the Methodist Church. Left to mourn his loss are his mother, Ruby Forbes, siblings: Deborah (Terry) Freeman of Columbia, MO, Glenna (Forrest) Whitford of Volga, IA, half-sisters: Karen (Robert) Baker of Independence, KY and Joan Forbes of CA, nieces: Laura Andrews and Ashley and Anna Whitford, best friend and Navy comrade, Tony Greco, and his tabby cat, Tiger. In death he has rejoined his father, half-brother, Robert Forbes, and half-sister, Sharon Richetti.
